Sea kayaks are the most versatile, sea worthy, and
efficient watercraft ever designed. Created by Native Americans hundreds
of years ago, these boats are light, stable, easy to paddle, and fast
enough to cover considerable distance in a day. The high mountain lakes of
the greater Yellowstone area provide one of the most diverse and beautiful
training grounds in the world for learning to sea kayak. Whether you dream
of paddling the lakes, exploring remote beaches, playing in the surf, or
crossing the open seas, we can get you there! |

Lewis and Shoshone Lake 3-Day Trip
One
of the finest paddling trips in the area, the Lewis/Shoshone trip takes
you quickly into Yellowstone’s backcountry. Shoshone Lake is the largest
backcountry lake in the contiguous United States. There is no road access
and only hand-propelled boats may reach its waters. Launching on the north
shore of Lewis Lake, we paddle a short distance along the shore until we
reach the Lewis River Channel. This two-mile section of the Lewis River,
which connects Lewis Lake to Shoshone Lake, has a gentle current over a
gravel and sand bottom. Shortly after we get to Shoshone Lake we make camp
at a primitive campsite on the shore’s beaches. The next day we paddle
across the lake to the Shoshone Geyser Basin. Here we can explore one of
Yellowstone’s most remote geyser basins. Paddling a little farther, we
spend the night on another one of Shoshone Lake’s beautiful beaches, and
return through the Lewis River Channel the following day. An unforgettable
journey with a perspective few people are privileged to see!

Yellowstone Lake 4-Day Trip
Nothing
compares to the excitement generated by paddling a kayak into the coves
and inlets of the pristine Yellowstone Lake, in Yellowstone National Park.
This is one of the best inland paddling destinations in the country.
Encompassing over 135 square miles, with 20 mile stretches of open water,
and 110 miles of shoreline, Yellowstone Lake is the largest freshwater
lake in the United States above 7,500 feet. You will be engulfed in the
wilderness and delighted by the beauty as we paddle along the deep, clear
waters and jagged shoreline in the southeast arm of the lake on this 4-day
3-night adventure. After taking a shuttle across the main body of the
lake, we paddle 2 -6 miles each day depending on the groups’ desires,
tent camp under the stars on sandy beaches, and dine on gourmet meals
cooked over the campfire. Native cutthroat trout thrive in the 400+ foot
deep Yellowstone Lake, providing unbelievable fishing. Fish right from
your kayak or choose one of the feeder creeks including the headwaters of
the Yellowstone River. When we’re not gliding across the lake, there is
time for hiking in fields of wildflowers or up nearby peaks, wildlife
watching, and even napping on the shores of the lake. Yellowstone Lake has
an ecosystem all its own and sea kayaking along its shoreline is the best
way to experience it! High mountains, endless lodge pole forests,
wildflower covered meadows, and native animals in their ancestral habitat
allow for a peaceful, relaxing, and unforgettable wilderness adventure!

Yellowstone Lake 8-Day Trip
This
is the ultimate Yellowstone kayaking trip, for people with minimal
kayaking experience. We begin in the west thumb of Yellowstone Lake where
we pack our kayaks with enough gear and supplies for eight days and seven
nights in the wilderness. As you guide your kayak east along the untamed
southern shore leaving civilization behind, you begin to settle in to a
relaxed pace, allowing your mind and spirit to escape from the confines of
everyday life. Your trip leader will paddle with you 2 – 7 miles to a
different backcountry campsite each day, sharing his/her extensive
knowledge of the area along the way. As we paddle towards Sedge Bay,
hugging the shore through the Flat Mountain Arm, South, and Southeast Arms
of the lake, you will be entertained by birds like Osprey or Bald Eagles
and the chance sighting of an Elk or Moose at the water’s edge. With
numerous coves and inlets to explore, fascinating geology, excellent
fishing, and superb hiking, your day will always be complete. Each
evening, after a delicious, filling dinner, you have the opportunity to
relax by the fire, recap the day’s discoveries, listen to the coyotes
and wolves howl, and gaze at the stars the way our ancestors did hundreds
of years ago, before dimmed by electric lights. Join us on this amazing
wilderness adventure, and see for yourself what few others have seen.

Kayak Fishing
An
absolute must for anyone who enjoys the idea of paddling in the remote
wilderness, casting a line, catching huge brown trout, and relaxing on a
mountain lake which can only be described as paradise! This is a
flyfishing/kayaking/camping expedition for the flyfisher looking for that
out of the ordinary adventure. Sea kayaks provide an unobtrusive and
pleasurable means to discover our favorite fishing spots. We kayak across
Lewis Lake and up the channel to Shoshone Lake. It is here in the channel,
where for a couple of weeks every fall, large brown trout come out of
Shoshone Lake to spawn in the shallow moving waters. This natural
occurrence provides some of the best fishing anywhere in the Rocky
Mountains. If you are bringing a partner who is not so engrossed in
fishing, our change of campsites will inspire their desire for hiking to a
geyser basin, watching wildlife in their natural habitat, or perhaps
practicing their kayaking. You don't have to be a kayak expert or a
flyfishing pro to catch lots of fish and have a great time. Your
flyfishing equipment should include waders, a five or six weight rod, and
sinking line, though there may be some surface action as well. Flies can
be purchased locally the day prior to the trip.

entrance fee)
